  I met Doctor Shaun Watson exactly 10 years ago. In November 2005 a neurology Registrar called his boss directly from Prince of Wells Hospital Emergency Department about a strange patient with severe Parkinson disease symptoms. I was in critical condition, almost couldn’t speak. Yet my wife knew that just two weeks ago I was completely healthy, and even played competitive tennis. Doctors at Emergency didn’t pay much attention to her words. In front of them there was a dying old man (I was 67 then) with Parkinson disease. Nothing unusual, nothing interesting. Dr Watson, found it unusual and challenging that such severe symptoms could develop in just a couple of weeks. He allowed the admission to the Neurology clinic at POWH. His decision saved my life. My case turned out to be a complete conundrum for a lot of Sydney neurologists. My condition was worsening every day, and some of his colleagues gave me no more than 10% chance of survival. Nonetheless, Doctor Watson emphatically kept searching for the cause of the challenging case. His professional ambition didn’t allow him to surrender, to give up. He kept saying to my wife: “We will get to the bottom of it”. Eventually Doctor Watson with his colleagues assumed that my sudden and life-threatening Parkinson-like condition could be the result of an extremely unusual immune reaction. Appropriate treatment turned out to be surprisingly successful. After having spent about two months in the hospital, part of which was under “palliative care”, I went home to my wife and the 6-yers old son. Shaun Watson once called me “the star patient” because of my miraculous recovery. But I was not. Doctor Watson is the “The Star Doctor”. I am absolutely convinced that having him as a doctor is a real luck as it was to me and my family.
